Spring Seedlings

My Many Hats

Since relocating last November, I have been wearing many hats; facilities and logistics manager, furniture assembler, lighting and interior designer and marketing and web manager for my art and clasess. You name it and I have done it amidst making a host of day to day decisions that come with relocating. Sounds a bit exhaustiing doesn’t it? It has taken the creative wind out of my sails a bit but, not for long. I am working hard on keeping the big picture in full perspective as I move ever forward.

Implementing & Integrating

That is happening in more ways than one around here friends! Not only on the analog level but also on the digital level. I benefit greatly from my audience, hearing from many of you with your encouragement, inspirations and suggestions to improve what I do. In response to an enthusiastic artist eager to gain easier access to my videos, Ren Allen “The Renbot” and I combined forces to integrate my website with my Vimeo channel, Member Page and Zoom class recordings. This is a project Ren has been encouraging me to do for about two years! So TODAY, with Ren’s amazing help, I am so thrilled to finally announce and introduce you to a new and exciting fully integrated seamless learning experience with me through Vimeo. As an existing or new Member, you gain exclusive access to instructional videos and special Member only discounts. Big thanks to all of my exisiting members, I hope you love your new benefits.

Constellation Atlas

After what seemed a constant marathon to transform my basement, I am at the infancy of what it is to be settling into the new studio, I am arriving at where to begin and decided to revisit two bodies of work I began in 2021. This series of twenty 14” x 11” paintings were originally conceived to reflect specific orientations of constellations during my time in Italy and the pandemic that followed. Then, commissions and mounting three shows within five months on both coasts derailed me from this project and I shelved it for a while. Then, I moved! Now, in a smaller temporary basement studio, I am needing to assimilate to working in a smaller space thus, the revisiting. My colleagues at the ArtNxt Level Academy launched a challenge; Building a Body of Work this week and my participation in it is the perfect opportunity to begin working on these again.

WHERE TO BEGIN AGAIN…

Here is a Reel from my Instagram page, and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for my Art and Workshops through the icon at the bottom.

Astoria Open Studios

This is a little portion of the second body of work not intended to be a grid though it’s fun to look at it that way. Each are 6” x 6” encaustic collagraphs that I have made prints from over the past five years. The muted tones printed colors gave me the urgeI to turn them into framed paintings diptychs and triptychs. There is something about the residue of the ink and the crushed down wax textures that the press leaves behind that make these stand alone peices with a history of making on them. I’m intrgued to see where they lead. These Claybord collagraphs I use to make prints with will be framed in Floater Frames, both made by Ampersand Art Supply. There are dozens of these waiting and steeping to become fully realized and the perfect starting point in the new studio. They are small, detailed, mysterious and timed well for Springtime in the new space. I have been getting aquainted slowly with the vibrant creative culture in Astoria and I’m looking forward to being a part of Astoria Open Studios the last weekend of July, 2023. So, see the details in the link to save the date for a fun art weekend in Astoria!!

Thank you for reading my blog! Please feel free to drop me a line, I would love to hear from you!
